Spread the Word About Wisconsin Promise

This information can be shared with individuals through email or letter to introduce Wisconsin Promise and invite eligible families to enroll.

Wisconsin Promise is a new federal demonstration grant from the Department of Education for youth ages 14, 15, and 16 years old receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI).  All youth who enroll will receive $30 in gift cards.  Half of the youth will continue to receive services as usual (the services they currently receive will not change).  The other half the youth who enroll will receive access to Wisconsin Promise services and an electronic tablet (e.g., an iPad).

What services does Wisconsin Promise provider? Wisconsin Promise Services are provided for at least two years to both the youth and their family members and include career exploration and planning, job development and placement, on the job supports, Work Incentives Benefits Counseling (how families can work and increase their overall income and continue access to needed health insurance), financial training and coaching, social skills training, and self- and family- advocacy training.

Who provides services? Wisconsin Promise services are provided through the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) to both the youth and their family members to help achieve their employment and education goals.  Under this grant, schools, mental health programs, long term care programs, vocational rehabilitation programs, and child welfare programs are all working together to support youth and families.

What about the youth’s ability to work?  Wisconsin Promise has a variety of resources, services and supports that can help make work possible for youth with a variety of disabilities to work.  Such resources include: on the job supports and customized employment to meet both employee and employer goals and needs.  Wisconsin Promise is also for the youth’s family.  Siblings, parents, and other family members, are also offered services and supports to meet their own school and work goals.
